Whitening

We use the highly regarded Lumiwhite product to offer effective and long-lasting whitening treatments.

These types of whitening treatments known as Home (or Tray) Whitening are regarded by the experts as the most effective and long-lasting whitening treatments.

The treatment involves 3 visits. On the first visit, a model will be made of your teeth. From this a very thin clear retainer is made leaving space for a gel to be placed inside.

Following the second visit, this retainer is worn for about 14-21 days, only when asleep, with the gel being changed each night. The gel gently whitens your teeth to your desired shade – you choose when to stop when you have reached the desired lightness.

Dewsbury Dental Centre will supply you with 4 tubes initially. Individual tubes are £30. On average, you will need to use 3 tubes to get your teeth to the desired lightness.

When you have finished the treatment you can top up or repeat the whitening at any stage at a very low cost – you only have to purchase more gel if you have run out (only £30 a tube).

Results are normally seen over a 3 week period. Any future top ups required due to tea/coffee/red wine staining usually only require the trays to be worn for a few nights.

FAQ

Most people are candidates for teeth whitening, but it's essential to consult with a dentist to determine if it's suitable for you. Factors such as the health of your teeth and gums, existing dental work, and the cause of discoloration will be considered.

Teeth whitening procedures typically involve the application of a bleaching agent to the teeth. This agent, usually containing hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, breaks down stains and whitens the enamel. The procedure can be done in-office by a dentist or at home using custom-made trays provided by the dentist.

The duration of teeth whitening results varies depending on factors such as lifestyle habits (e.g., smoking, consumption of staining foods and drinks), oral hygiene practices, and the type of whitening treatment used. In general, the effects of professional teeth whitening can last from several months to a few years. Touch-up treatments may be needed periodically to maintain results.

To maintain the results of teeth whitening, it’s essential to practice good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing regularly. Avoiding foods and beverages known to stain teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries, can also help prolong the effects. Additionally, using whitening toothpaste and attending regular dental check-ups for professional cleanings can assist in maintaining a bright smile.
